THE TALL TALES OF TIMOTHY THE TORTOISE

In September 2019 school children and forest school participants joined three immortal characters The Constant Consoler, The Taker of Notes & The Digger of Holes on a lantern lit journey across Powderham Estate to celebrate the Tall Tales of Timothy the Tortoise, one of the Estate's most famous residents! 

A giant Timothy the Tortoise lantern is processed into the night, lead by three celebrants The Digger of Holes, The Constant Consoler, and The Keeper of the Notes, holding up bright red smoking flares.

We learned about the extraordinary history of a small creature that lived from the Crimean war right through some of the most momentus events of the 20th century, and through several generations of the families at the Powderham Estate.

Two lines of audience, with handmade lanterns at their feet, watch on as The Constant Consoler tells them a tale.

Participants made lanterns together to assist the three immortal undertakers in raising Timothy the Tortoise back to life for just one night, and commemorating an extrordinary life.
